I have been working on a little bed project. Wanting to add more style, interest, and layers to my bed, I've been playing with different size pillows, blankets, folding back the duvet, etc. Basically every combo you can imagine.
And while I am getting close.....I kept saying "why doesn't my bed look like the pictures?" Thankfully, Emily Henderson reveals why. The beds we see in professional design photo shoots are not the same as the ones in our bedroom. They have secret tricks up their sleeve such as the following: home-made ironing boards (to fit tiny touch up areas), different kinds of tapes, and lots of sprays. There is actually a real job now called a "bed stylist." These bed stylists are flown all around the world for their bed styling skills. These photo shoots take hours, analyzing every wrinkle, going for polished yet still organic.
Phew! Learning this made me feel better. I do not have special tape or a custom ironing board for my bed. I do the best job I can making it in the morning, but it always has wrinkles. It still looks nice, but not like a professional photo shoot. Duh....I am not in a professional shoot. This is just my bed that I sleep in.
A good lesson about the internet which takes the pressure off. While I will continue to admire these professional images and learn from them, I will also cut myself some slack.
(Tip: if you want to get closer to these perfect images or have a big party coming up in your home, take your pillow cases & duvet cover to the cleaners to have them professionally pressed. And the top sheet if you fold it back).
Thanks to Amber Interiors for this photo above (not my bed!).
