What is this image? Alice in Wonderland.
This is not just your typical abstract art. Jason Shulman cleverly turned some of our favorite movies into art. And not just vintage movie posters.....more creative than that. Shulman photographs the entire film in a single image with an ultra-long exposure, which creates an impressionist photo. Each scene from the movie is layered on top of each other until they dissolve into this blurry and interesting image. Shulman states that "you could take all these frames and shuffle them like a deck of cards, and no matter the shuffle, you would end up with the same image." He also points out that you can learn something about the director's style from his work: you can learn that Hitchcock deals with people, Kubrick deals with composition, Bergman's films are moody and psychological.
Not all films worked for this project. For example, Avatar and all of James Cameron's films didn't fit into Shulman's point of view because of the camera is always moving.
His series "Photographs of Films" were displayed in the Photo London festival and at the Cob Gallery in London.
