My last Mexico trip was not in Cabo. It was about 1.5 farther north in an area called Cerritos. We spent time in El Pescadero and Todos Santos. This area is NOT like Cabo (more on the area in a future blog post).
Anyways, we are in a more chill/authentic part of Mexico, and my friend recommends going to this guy's garage for dinner. Yes, a garage. I was half intrigued/half concerned....but they promised me the food would be exquisite.
Back then, Carlito was just cooking food at his house, his wife making the cocktails, and serving small parties in his garage. It's not in town, not easy to find, dirt roads, but he does have a sign. No menus, everyone pays a set amount ($75 or so? It seemed like a lot for a garage in Mexico......), and they bring to the table whatever they feel like cooking that day.
Look how beautiful this meal turned out to be. Not what you'd expect for a place so off the beaten path.
These days Carlito has has expanded, and the place feels more like a restaurant.
Looking back, I think it was actually cooler that we enjoyed his food in his garage before he got so established, but if I am back in the area, I will definitely eat Carlito's food again no matter where he is cooking.
carlito's restaurant now:
My friend Brooke goes to this part of Mexico every year, and they always eat at Carlito's Place.
