Looking for a new coffee table? Not looking for a new coffee table, but something in your living room doesn't feel exactly right? Take some measurements!
Key numbers: 18 and 2/3.
18" = the approximate distance from the sofa
2/3 = table should be approximately 2/3 the length of your sofa.
One more for you: table should be same height as sofa or 1" - 2" lower.
Sometimes people choose coffee tables that are too small. They are not weighty enough to balance the sofa and it looks strange. It can be the perfect color, but it it looks too small, it doesn't work. First look for the correct size, then figure out which style you like. (these #'s are approximates-you can be a few inches off and be ok-just a rough guide!).
Not sure about my math? These numbers were validated by my amazing designer friend Mead, of Mead Quin Design. A few of Mead's thoughtfully chosen coffee tables below. You can check out more of Mead's beautiful work at the SF Decorator Showcase in May.

I haven't measured all of these coffee tables, but they all look about right.
Can you see how the right size coffee table completes the look?
