Yes, I know, I'm a bit late on this one. But, hey, one of my NY Resolution's is letting things go & not being so serious. So, it's cool!
I have three resolutions this year.
- More champagne & more dancing on tables
- More cooking
- F*ck it bucket
Let's go through them.
champagne
First, the photo above an adorable download from Etsy that you should use for your next party. It is $6 and link above. I had it out for a party in the fall and have left it up as a reminder to myself. More celebrating life! More finding reasons to drink champagne! The reason does not have to be something life changing. It can be simple things like sunshine, friendship, laughter, the weekend, learning, a new perspective, fabulous shoes, having a good hair day, having a bad hair day, a good night's sleep, a beautiful view, or people who give back.
Even if you are pregnant or not drinking, you can still bring this into your life. Before you eat, take a minute to toast the person next to you with your water/iced tea. Find something to be thankful for. It's kind of like saying a blessing before you eat.
dancing on tables
Part two of this quote involves dancing on tables. Inspired by a very elegant and understated friend (who shall remain nameless) who danced on my coffee table at a party in the fall, I started the trend of dancing on my coffee table at my Xmas party this year. It was a ball. I'm not sure why being one foot off the floor feels more exciting, but it just does. Maybe because I am 5'2". I used to dance on tables/stages/ledges all the time, and have gotten away from it.
How does this apply to your life? Let's be less serious, less self conscious, and more festive. Life is short! Even if you aren't literally dancing on a table, you can still embody this spirit in your daily life.
cooking
I used to cook all the time. I have also gotten away from this. I almost feel like I don't know how to cook anymore. So, I am getting back to it. Not only is it healthier for the body and the budget, there is something about connecting to your dinner before you eat it. Cooking for an hour after work is a great way for me to transition out of the day. Time off the computer and doing something old fashioned is good for the soul. So, whether it's Blue Apron, old family recipes, or Barefoot Contessa, I am going to cook more this year. It won't be every night, but it will be more. My husband is obviously thrilled with this one!
f*ck it bucket
This relates to a book I read about letting go of some things in your life. We cannot do everything perfectly all the time. Some things need to go in the f*uck it bucket. Try it. Think of something you should really stop worrying about. Take a breath. During the exhale, put it in the f*ck it bucket. Feels good, huh?
I would like to prioritize some things, and let go of the rest. Stay tuned for a future post about the book The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck. This does not mean letting everything go and being an entire mess. It just means being wise enough to know what you can control/what you should prioritize, and what you should just let go. See serenity prayer below, and Mom, sorry for using the F-word.
So, these are what I am working on this year. Do you have any good resolutions you'd like to share? Do you have any good recipes you'd like to share? Hooray for 2017 and who cares if we start a few weeks late! Even if you start in July, you get a pat on the back from me for working on yourself.
